The National Goat ShowIt happens every year, at the height of the summer. Thousands of avid competitors from across America begin a hot, grueling pilgrimage toward their Mecca: the National Goat Show.

They breed for years and even decades to produce a doe - a female goat - that has that certain something, that je ne sais quoi of caprine perfection. They travel thousands of miles through dizzying heat, towing rusty old trailers or huge gooseneck state-of-the-art goat RVs. All for the sake of a simple trophy and a coveted title: National Champion.

"Goat People," as they refer to each other, come from all walks of life. The film follows several "Goat People" as they prepare and travel to the National Goat Show - in Washington, Indiana, and California. Their hopes and dreams become ours, as we gradually understand that the goats have transformed their owners and given them something almost impossible to find elsewhere.

Amid the dust, unbearable heat, starched white outfits and endless bleating, we witness a love and loyalty almost unknown in the 21st century. You must see it to believe it.

It's "The National Goat Show. "

Documentary

"Taipei Journal" features a 20 year-old woman with a disability from North Carolina who travels Taipei journalalone to Taipei to explore the boundaries of her abilities. As if from the pages of her journal, we hear her reflections on the journey, her personal growth, and developing personal identity. Park McArthur has muscular dystrophy. She is stunning, articulate and brave.

Diagnosed at age nine with a progressive disease that threatens to leave her increasingly disabled, she finds herself at the age of sixteen requiring the use of an electric scooter and by the age of nineteen she is confined full time to a wheelchair. Beginning to manifest itself in her arms, the Muscular Dystrophy presents her with an even more uncertain future.

In Taipei Park finds herself relying on a group of American college students, raising concerns about being a burden, her own need for privacy, and the complexity of relationships and her own developing sexuality. Nearly fluent in Chinese, she explores disability activism in Taiwan, visiting the esteemed Eden Foundation and spends time with her high-school Chinese teacher, a Taiwanese native inspirational in her life.

Park sets out, not sure she will be able to get around or find an accessible place to stay. She learns to ask others for help as she needs it, to not be ashamed to depend on other people, some total strangers. What she finds through her journey is a new confidence in herself and in "living for today."
